Fauzia Yasmin took music lessons from the musicians Ustaad Yousuf Khan Qureshi, and Ustaad Mohammad Fazlul Huq. She became a vocal artiste of the then Radio Pakistan in 1960. She took part in National Television programs since 1965. She used to perform Modern Bangla songs, Nazrul Sangeet (Songs created by Bangladesh National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam), Folk and Rhyme songs along with Urdu Geet and Ghazals. She was also a playback singer and rendered voice in a number of films. She participated in musical conferences and soirees. She visited a number of countries including Pakistan, England, and Australia, and took part in music programs. She, along with her husband Mobarak Hossain Khan, was the initiator of a popular TV musical program on NTV Channel (Bangladesh) called Bajo Ebong Bajao, which featured Sangat (co-performance) of Raag based Nazrul Sangeet with Sitar, Sarode, and other classical instruments that involved extensive planning and research. Her famous songs include আজ পুতুলের গায়ে হলুদ (Aaj Putuler Gaye Holud), মন তো নয় আর আয়না (Mon to Noy Aar Ayna). Awards and Accolades
Fauzia Yasmin won Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (বাংলাদেশ শিল্পকলা একাডেমী) (National Academy of Fine and Performing Arts of Bangladesh) in their annual 'Gunijon Shambardhana' (গূণীজন সম্বর্ধনা) in 2006 and Alakta Literary Council Award (অলক্ত সাহিত্য পরিষদ পুরস্কার) (1987). Masud Karim Foundation awarded here with 'Masud Karim Golden Award' in March, 2016. 'Gollachhut Paribar' awarded 'Sheikh Russel' award as a special cultural personality in 2022. Uttara Public Library awarded the 'Ratnagarva' award on Mother's day in 2023. Meghdut Sahitya and Sangskritik Sangathan awarded a special award on her birthday in 2023 on the completion of her 63 years of muscial life. On December 6th, Eden College respected her with accolade as a celebrated alumni on the 150th anniversary of the college.
She decided to dedicate her life more towards the family and household life, rather than building her career as a musician. Therefore, she did not run for fame and glory and remained in comparative oblivion. However, people from her generation still recognize her status as celebrity due to her burst to fame through her radio performances in the early 1960s with her unforgettable songs 'Aj Putuler Gae Holud', 'Mon to Noy Ar Ayna', 'Ami Nupur Pora', and many more. Her first recording actually dates back to 1960, and she continued to perform regularly as a 'Grade A' artist in both Radio Bangladesh, and Bangladesh Television, as well as in stages across the country, well into the next four decades, before deciding to retire.
Education and Academic Career
Besides her illustrious musical career, she was also busy in the academic field. She took her degree in Master of Arts (M.A.) in Bangla Literature, from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, and joined in the teaching profession in T. and T. College, Motijheel, Dhaka, in 1971, until her voluntary retirement in 1999.
Other passions
She also had a passion for cooking, and successfully conducted a cooking certificate course called 'Gharkannya' (ঘরকন্যা) as a home-based enterprise from 1979-1989.
